Our restaurants in Guelph blog is one of the top ranked results there is. But we’ve had a lot of requests for other types of cuisines as well! So, this post calls out our top 6 for best chinese in Guelph!

Woks Taste

Rays Chinese

Guelph BBQ

Royal City Chinese

Win Chinese

Super Happy Garden

Woks Taste, 10 Carden St downtown Guelph (across from Guelph City Hall)

Woks Taste has been around a long time. And, any restaurant that has been around this long means that they have regular, consistent business. We can vouch for this place as we’ve ordered from here a number of times over the years.

Their menu consists of all the items you’d expect (and hope!) to find in a Chinese food restaurant. In fact, their website has food broken down in two ways: Canadian style and Chinese Style.

The prices are reasonable compared to some of the other cuisine out there and they’re great for being on time and accurate.

Eat in? Yes, you can eat in but it’s small and the decor is not updated.

Beth’s favourite: Chicken with Ginger and Onion

Ryan’s favourite: Hot and Sour Soup

Rays Chinese, 35 Harvard Rd (Campus Estates Plaza)

Rays seems to have a small cult following and is located in the Harvard Place near Stone and Gordon. This plaza has evolved over time into a multicultural food destination including Ray’s. Due to its proximity to the University of Guelph, students tend to be a large portion of Ray’s business.

You can eat in or take out here. Their website is pretty basic, but it offers two very important things: their menu and an online order function.

Beth’s favourite: Moo Goo Guy Pan

Guelph BBQ, 650 Scottsdale Dr

Guelph BBQ puts a bit of a modern spin on traditional chinese food in Guelph with their menu. This restaurant has quickly gained a loyal following. Although they’ve differentiated themselves slightly in product offering, it’s still a chinese food restaurant where you an order family combos.

This Chinese food in Guelph is located at Stone and Scottsdale, across the street from the LCBO (see map below)

Royal City Chinese, 241 Edinburgh Rd N Guelph

If you’re looking for the nostalgic, authentic 1980’s chinese food vibe, this is your choice. We’ve been in Guelph a long time and Royal City has been here even longer. Meaning, it must be good. Online debates about Royal City are common, as it’s not modern in decor or curb appeal, but dish up all the local chinese food classics.

They used to offer a buffet here, as it’s a larger restaurant. However, over the past few years during COVID they’ve ended this and their in store/ dine in traffic has declined.

Located on the edge of Exhibition Park, Royal City doesn’t seem like much from the street, anchored by a gas station and now shut down used car lot. But it’s stood the test of time and is still one of Guelph’s favourites. Their online presence is the same- dated, but functional.

Win Chinese, 1467 Gordon St (South Guelph)

If you live in South Guelph, you’ve likely ordered from Win Chinese. This restaurant has a local following and if you’re ever asking for best chinese food in Guelph, Win usually comes up.

This location is in a small plaza right on Gordon St where you have to park around back on Heritage Dr, making it harder to see from the busy Gordon St. There is a small seating area here, but they are mostly set up for pick up or delivery. For those who prefer to use visuals to make a decision, they have a menu board in store with pictures of some of their more popular items.

Their website is pretty basic and some functions don’t work, but you can get all the info you need from the online menu.

Beth’s favourite: Cantonese Chow Mein

Ryan’s favourite: Dinner for 3B- lots of leftovers!

Super Happy Garden, 259 Grange Rd

Representing East Guelph, Super Happy Garden is in the plaza with Home Hardware at Grange/ Victoria. The menu and decor here reminds of us of traditional chinese food restaurants that you’d go to as a kid. Staff is friendly and some of the dishes are better than others, but overall a great experience.

This location has ample seating for dine in, although like most chinese food in Guelph it’s mainly a pick up or delivery location. Their portions are known for being large and perfect for leftovers.

Their website is one of the few with an online ordering system, which we like. It even gives bestseller options.
